Roles:

The Federal Pension Service for Post and Telecommunications e.V. (registered association) (BPS-PT) was established at the beginning of 2001 following the merger of the three independent provident funds of the postal public limited companies (Deutsche Post Pensions-Service e. V., Deutsche Postbank Pensions-Service e. V. and Deutsche Telekom Pensions-Service e. V.).

The core role of BPS-PT is the calculation and payment of pension benefits (particularly retirement pension and also widows'/widowers'/orphans' pensions in accordance with the Civil Service Pensions Act) and benefit payments (particularly sickness benefits in accordance with government regulations on benefits) to retired employees of Deutsche Bundespost and its successors, and survivors of the former.
It is responsible for all pension and benefit payment transactions on behalf of the Deutsche Bundespost companies. BPS-PT also assumes the role of trustee for the government for the financial administration of the amounts to be paid by the Bundespost, Postbank and Deutsche Telekom.  BPS-PT currently makes payment to over one-fifth of the benefit recipients in the Federal Republic and is thus the largest benefit fund in Germany for public sector workers. In 2004, BPS-PT made pension and benefit payments totalling around €6.4 billion to around 271,000 retired public sector workers, widows, widowers and orphans.
