Roles:
Since it was established in May 2002, the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) has been the single authority responsible for the supervision of banks and financial service providers, insurers and securities trading. BaFin is an independent public-sector agency and is subject to the legal and specialist supervision of the Federal Ministry of Finance. It is financed by fees from and levies on the supervised institutes and businesses. This makes it independent of state funding.
