An international comparison of the most important taxes
The "Information Centre for German and Foreign Taxes" at the Federal Central Tax Office has produced a booklet entitled "An international comparison of the most important taxes" on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Finance. The booklet contains details of German and foreign aspects of tax and public finance which are crucial to the debate on fiscal and financial policy. Considered in isolation, such comparisons can lead to erroneous conclusions, as they only allow for a few circumstances. Nevertheless, their importance to political and economic decision-making must not be underestimated, although they require careful interpretation. The comparisons prepared fundamentally extend to all EU Member States and some other major industrialised countries (particularly the USA, Canada, Japan, Switzerland and Norway).
